Artists statement

I started painting the things that I love…creating a gallery of family and friends. In the process, I discovered joy in capturing the essence of characters that form our community, the personality of places in our environment and the things that enrich our days.  For me, the medium of watercolor is simultaneously challenging and enchanting, where spontaneity and intention collid

 

Biography

​

Sonja is a Signature Member of the Minnesota Watercolor Society and has been painting in watercolor since 2001. Her interest was ignited through a class taught by a friend at the Linden Hills Community Center that first winter. 

She has studied with established local and international watercolor artists. She is currently President of the Minnesota Watercolor Society and has served on the Board of Directors since 2009.

Sonja has earned numerous awards in juried shows throughout the metropolitan area.

Sonja exhibits her work throughout the Twin Cities in places such as the Minnetonka Center for the Arts, Edina Art Center, Hopkins Center for the Arts, The Northrup King Building in Minneapolis, The UCare Skyway Center, Bethesda Hospital, Robbin Gallery, The Ames Center in Burnsville, The Minnesota State Fair and in various local gathering places.
